WHAT IS B12?

B12 is an essential vitamin that play key roles in the production of healthy red blood cells, healthy brain function and nervous system, and the construction of DNA. Therefore the shortage of active B12 will affect most part of the body, from your DNA through to your mental health.

Some people will have impaired absorption of B12 due to ageing, eating disorder and chronic use of certain medications. Vegetarians also facing B12 deficiency related to non-original animal source as the only way of introducing vitamin B12 in human’s diet is by food sources from animals as meat, fish or dairy products so food supplement B12 are important alternative to them.

WHAT IS ALPHA LIQOIC ACID (ALA)?

Alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant compound that is produced naturally by the human body in small amount.  Giving alpha-lipoic acid orally daily seems to reduce symptoms of peripheral neuropathy in patients with diabetes. A meta-analysis of 11 clinical trials shows that taking alpha-lipoic acid daily decreases total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Meta-analyses of clinical research showed that Alpa Lipoic Acid can modestly reduce body weight and body mass index (BMI) .

ALA is present within mitochondria, which are the powerhouses of the cells.

ALA play important roles in digestion, absorption, and the creation of energy. It helps enzymes turn nutrients into energy. It also has antioxidant properties.

As only small amount of ALA is produced by human body, many people turn to supplements to increase their intake.

WHAT IS BENFOTIAMINE

Benfotiamine is a dietary supplement that is a derivative of thiamine (also known as vitamin B1).

Benfotiamine is fat-soluble and appears to have higher bioavailability and absorption by the body than thiamine. It has shown anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.

Orally, vitamin B1 (benfotiamine) is used for diabetic neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy and alcoholism. Most clinical research shows promising effect of benfotiamine in improving pain and other symptoms of neuropathy among patients with diabetic neuropathy. Some research indicates that benfotiamine can reduce alcohol consumption and improve some psychiatric symptoms in certain patients with alcohol dependence.

WHAT IS FOLIC ACID?

Folate and folic acid are forms of the water-soluble B9 vitamin. Folate in food is about 40% to 50% less bioavailable than folic acid, which is almost 100% bioavailable.

One of folate’s crucial jobs is to produce the nucleotide “building blocks” of DNA. When folate is trapped in non-functional form due to lack of B12, it can not carry out this job in a proper and correct manner.  Thereore the presence of MecobalActive® B12 is very essential to ensure Folic acid is useable and functionable.

WHAT IS PYRIDOXINE?

Pyridoxine is a form of Vitamin B6.  In the body, vitamin B6 is required for amino acid metabolism. It is also involved in carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Several forms of vitamin B6 exist, including pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine. All of these forms are considered to be equivalent in the human body.
